Warren’s The Cinco half marathon, one of the ten Cinco de Mayo-themed events at the Cinco Races and Walks, has been selected as the 2015 Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Pennsylvania State Championship Half Marathon Race.
The RRCA Championship Event Series selects only best-in-class events and awards top-performing runners in varying age groups for both men and women. “It is a tremendous honor to be named a top race by the RRCA Championship Series and a testament to our dedicated volunteers and participants who have made the Cinco Races and Walks a fiesta of movement for 14 years,” said Race Director Charles Gray. “This designation will bring state and national recognition to the Cinco and increase race participation, which will help us raise more funds to support our five Warren County Libraries.”
RRCA annually designates state championships in each state in 1-Mile, 5K, 10K, 10-Mile, Half Marathon, Marathon, Ultra and Cross Country distances with the intent of promoting distance racing as a sport. Since 1958, RRCA has awarded championships for the state, regional and national levels through a competitive bidding process. The goal of RRCA Championship Events is to help race directors recruit top performing runners, attract sponsors, improve civic and media support, and promote fitness through running. The championship designation communicates to race participants and the community that the race organizers follow approved RRCA safety standards and guidelines for the race.
